There are different income thresholds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/credits-deductions\/credits-for-new-clean-vehicles-purchased-in-2023-or-after\" rel=\"noopener\">qualify for the tax credit<\/a>, and the vehicle you are purchasing must also meet specifications defined by the IRS, such as manufacturing requirements and suggested retail price (MSRP) limits.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">The Changes<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) has made multiple changes to the tax landscape, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/faqs-for-modification-of-sections-25c-25d-25e-30c-30d-45l-45w-and-179d-under-public-law-119-21-139-stat-72-july-4-2025-commonly-known-as-the-one-big-beautiful-bill-act-obbb\" rel=\"noopener\">several energy credits<\/a> will be expiring soon as an effect. The new and used EV tax credit, originally expiring in 2032, will now expire on September 30, 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/faqs-for-modification-of-sections-25c-25d-25e-30c-30d-45l-45w-and-179d-under-public-law-119-21-139-stat-72-july-4-2025-commonly-known-as-the-one-big-beautiful-bill-act-obbb\" rel=\"noopener\">IRS has clarified<\/a> that individuals may still claim this credit if they enter into a binding contract prior to the September 30th deadline and a payment, such as a downpayment or trade-in, has been made.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">EVs purchased before September 30, 2025 may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500 for new qualifying EVs, and up to $4,000 for used EVs. There is no tax credit offered for EVs purchased after this date.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Next Steps<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">With the expiration date set for the tax credits, it\u2019s important to remind yourself not to rush into a purchase. Do your research and find an EV that fits your budget and needs.
