10 Baby Girl Names I love (but won’t be using)

If you’ve seen our gender reveal video (you can find it here) you will know that we are expecting a baby boy.

We do of course, already have a daughter, Lily-Rose so will now have ‘one of each’ which is pretty cool. I’m excited to see the similarities and differences between our two kids as they grow up.

We’ve had this baby’s name picked out for ages now – literally as soon as we found out what we were having we chose his name. Well Scott chose his name and thankfully I love it too!

Just in case you don’t already know –Β our baby boy isΒ going to be called Theo.

Theo is our miracle baby after a (long) 7 year wait, and losses in that time. He’s likely to also be our last baby too – the idea of going through the same process of infertility and trying to conceive againΒ is not something that appeals!

And so, that being the case, I figured it’d be fun to share our ‘other’ baby names – the baby girl names I love but won’t be using.

10 Baby Girl Names I love (but won’t be using)

1. Freya

Ok so I love this name but we probably wouldn’t have used it simply because Scott isn’t keen (something about a scary beast in Final Fantasy games he played as a kid *eye roll*).

I love this Nordic name and it’s strong roots in Viking mythology and Scotland. It’s growing in popularity but is still really unique.

2. Violet

3. Luna

Luna means Moon in Latin and as a family we have a love of wolves and the moon in general (yeah weird I know). It is of course, also a name from the Harry Potter series of books – which are my favourites.

Randomly it was also the name of the restaurant where Scott and I had our first date so I feel like it’s extra special.

4. Thea

5. Alice

It’s a little more traditional than the other girls names I love but it’s a name from one of my favourite books growing up. Alice is a name of Germanic origin and it means ‘noble’. I think it goes really nicely with Lily-Rose too.

6. Indi

A shortened version of the name Indiana (which I absolutely love) – it’s feminine but strong too.

7. Ivy

We both really like floral names – which you may have guessed by the fact that our daughter is called Lily-Rose! I love the name Ivy but as my sister pointed out it sounds completely daft with our surname so we wouldn’t use it.

8. Poppy

9. Leia

Leia means Meadow which is really pretty but we obviously would have picked it for it’s Star Wars association as Scott is a big fan!

10. Peyton

When we first got together Scott and I used to love watching One Tree Hill – Peyton was the name of one of the characters from that programme.

It’s quite an American sounding name but I do love it and think it’s quite rare in the UK.

We also really love the name Willow but it’s the name of Lily’s best friend (and her best friend’s sister is called Lilly!) so we wouldn’t use it *ok well Scott totally still would but he’s weird ha*

Do you like any of the names we loved?

Which one would you pick?

Alex

Such cute names, I think it is so hard to name someone when you haven’t met them yet!

I love the floral names too. There are a lot of Freya’s here in Shetland, as it has such strong Nordic roots.

Totally loving these names! I’m hoping in the future I’ll have a girl as I’ve got a few names picked out and I would also love one of both. Theo is such a cute name, congratulations. I love the names poppy and Alice, they are so beautiful.

You choose the right name! Theo is something. I don’t know anyone who is named Theo but when I read the name it made me smile. I would have had difficulty choosing between Theo and Indi though. πŸ™‚

I love these names! I’ve always liked Alice as a name and Ivy too – they are kinds older and classic. Peyton also reminds me of One Tree Hill – such a good show!!

Congratulations on the impending arrival of your boy. You must be so excited! Freya was on our short list too. Love all the above though Cx

I found choosing the name for my son was super easy – I really didn’t have any other names but for my daughter – boy it was difficult. As a teacher I wanted to avoid any names of children I’d taught. After 20 years that was a loooong list. Then one night a name popped into my head and that was that. I did play with the names Mirah, Isabella, and Nikki .

Scott has the same struggle as he works in a nursery and doesn’t want to use a name of a child he’s already worked with! I love the name Isabella but we have two friends whose daughters are called that and a Bella too!

Those are lovely names, I also work in a nursery and have done for 7 years so it was hard choosing names for my little one. I had a little girl and named her Albia Grace. Congratulations on your lovely news!
