Baby Led Weaning Essentials Avanchy

Theo will be turning six months in December (not quite sure how the time has gone so quickly!) and so we will soon be starting our weaning journey! It’s advised by the NHS to start weaning after the 6-month mark and so we’ve stuck to milk for Theo so far, although the past week he’s had a little lick of a few things such as a bit of mash and broccoli from my plate which he seemed really keen on – particularly the broccoli which he held in his hand and practised putting it into his mouth!

We are planning on trying baby led weaning with Theo and so I’ve been doing a lot of research into this method of weaning. It wasn’t really a ‘thing’ when Lily was little and so she was traditionally weaned with purees. I’m a little nervous about baby led weaning still but we are going to give it a go and see how he does!

Realistically you don’t need any special equipment to do baby led weaning, however, there are a few bits and pieces that will help make the process easier *and hopefully not as messy!*

I LOVE the look of the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair however it is pretty expensive. Instead, we are going to get the same high chair for Theo that we had for Lily – the Ikea Antilop.

It has a detachable tray so it can be used as a standalone high chair or pulled up to the dining table so we can all eat together. Plus I know from experience that it’s really easy to clean.

Splash Mat

Weaning, in general, is a messy business but from what I’ve read BLW is even messier. I’m not particularly precious about my house getting dirty when it comes to this process but the easier the clean-up the better and so I will be getting some oilcloth fabric to lay under the highchair. I love the modern scandi style of this Narvik print one from Only Oilcloths.

I can just pop this on the floor and as it’s quite a simple and modern print it will go with the rest of our decor.

Bowl and Cutlery

I love the bamboo bowls, plates and cutlery from Avanchy. I plan on ordering the suction bowl, plate and spoon set.

They are made from organic bamboo which is sustainable and BPA, PVC, lead and phthalate-free. The suction bottom means that Theo won’t be able to knock them off of his highchair tray or the table either!

Nuk Food Cube Tray

Theo will be pretty much eating whatever we are having for dinner, however, I’ll be making sure that he doesn’t get salt in his diet and so will be batch cooking a lot of pasta sauces and the like. The fact that these are silicone means that the tray can be frozen and the individual portions will be easy to pop out too.

Sleeved Bib

Like I said above, baby led weaning is likely to get pretty messy. I’m planning on getting one of these sleeved bibs so that I can at least attempt to keep it from staining his clothes.

Baby Led Weaning Essentials Fox Bib

Theo’s middle name is Fox and so I’m pretty obsessed with anything that has a fox print on it. So it was a given that I’d be ordering this fox print bib from Jojo Maman Bebe.

It’s bittersweet knowing that we are about to start a whole new chapter in his life – I’m excited but feel quite sad too; knowing that he is getting older and that soon I’ll be heading back to work.
